Sterling Tractor Specs

This 1999 Sterling A9513 tandem axle tractor isn't a looker,

but then, you probably weren't buying it for looks.

After all, this tractor

features a 6x4 drive, setback axle,

a CAT C-15 6NZ Single Turbo engine,

and a ten-speed transmission,

all of it still running strong.

It features a Jake brake,

11R22.5's on steel wheels,

dual 100 gallon fuel tanks,

and new front brakes

(the rear brakes still have 40% on them).

The truck also features an air slide fifth wheel.

The cab, with its ice cold A/C,

heated mirrors, manual windows and locks,

tilt/tele steering,

and cruise control,

is very comfortable.

But don't take our word for it.

Sterling Trucks History

Sterling Trucks existed twice.

The original incarnation of Sterling Trucks

was purchased by White Trucks in 1953

and quietly discontinued in 1955.

Freightliner took on the Sterling name

decades later, in 1997,

when the company acquired

Ford's heavy duty truck division,

including their legendary L (Louisville) Series.

This Sterling bears hexagonal grille

that was one of the Louisville's defining features.

Freightliner retired the Sterling name in 2008,

but if the company's history up to now is any guide,

the Sterling name will appear again

on other high quality trucks in the future.
