Kenworth History
and the Gerlinger Brothers' Portland, Oregon car and truck dealership.
The brothers designed and built a truck
with a heavy-duty frame and inline six engine
that was ideally suited
to the Pacific Northwest's logging industry.
The company moved to Seattle a few years later,
whereupon the Gerlinger brothers
met Edgar Worthington
and his business partner Frederick Kent.
The pair bought out the Gerlinger brothers,
renamed the company Kenworth,
and set about making history.
Kenworth was the first to offer diesel engines
standard in its trucks,
and became known for the quality of its trucks.
These days, along with Peterbilt, Leyland
and a handful of other companies,
Kenworth is under the PACCAR umbrella.
One thing hasn't changed;
Kenworth maintains a nearly century-long reputation
for excellent heavy-duty trucks.
